Making the Right Choice
By Cathy Cameron, Director of Admission, Pickering College
With many excellent schools to choose from, how do you find the one that is best for you? Passionate, inspired and caring teachers; beautiful safe learning spaces and a well-rounded curriculum that challenges and nurtures mind, body and spirit lie at the core of what makes Pickering College special.
At Pickering we strive to help you find your talent and passion; to develop a sense of confidence, compassion and a commitment to helping make the world a better place.
In your school selection process, we recommend the following:
Consider what is most important to you.
Do you desire a smaller school environment where you will have the chance to know your teachers and classmates well? Where you will be encouraged and supported to do your personal best? Where you will have the opportunity to try new things - be it creating a film, building a school in Kenya, learning a new language, hosting your own radio show, or venturing off by dog sled for a weekend of winter camping? Where you can study with highly motivated classmates from Ontario and different countries around the world? Where you will be well prepared for success at university and in life? If yes, Pickering College may be the school for you.
Do your research
While a great place to begin your research will be through our school website and promotional material, we also encourage you to speak with current PC students, alumni, faculty and staff. Let us know and we’d be happy to let you know when we will be visiting your area or to put you in touch with a student, an alum or family in your area to share their PC experience with you and answer questions. Learn about how they made the choice to come to PC, what impact a PC education has had on their lives and what they value most about the school.
Experience Pickering College
Finally, there is nothing better than experiencing PC first hand to round out your understanding of the school! There are numerous opportunities throughout the year for you to attend an Open House, an information evening, or to arrange for your own personal tour of the school. We encourage you to register for our Spend a Half program where you can participate in classes, meet future teachers and classmates, and join us for lunch. If you are thinking about our boarding program, we invite you to spend an evening in residence in addition to visiting our classes. If you are not able to visit us in person, why not join us for a Skype discussion with current students and staff. Lastly, if English is not your native language, consider joining us for our summer ESL camp.
